Background
NGC 6771 is an edge-on lenticular galaxy in Pavo, 210 million light-years away — about 20 million light-years further than its apparent companions NGC 6769/6770. (Note: an earlier observing log referred to the third member as “NGC 67771”, a typo.)
My Observing Notes
44-cm (Club 17.5-inch f/5): Bottom of the field, completing the Pavo triplet with NGC 6769 / 6770. Elongated shape (2.4'×0.5'); at mag 12.5 slightly fainter than its neighbours. A line-of-sight companion only — sits 20 million light-years behind the interacting NGC 6769 / 6770 pair.(Saturday, September 2025)
